Where’s the Disconnect?

The number one thing on most college recruits’ minds is the kind of employment they will find after graduation.  Unfortunately for admissions personnel, the national numbers paint quite the confusing picture.  If you take a look at this presentation from Georgetown University you would think that our nation doesn’t have enough college graduates.  However, if you look at this article by the National Journal there doesn’t seem to be anywhere to put our graduates that have college degrees.  So where’s the disconnect?  Are our colleges just not educating their graduates effectively to be  a member of the national work force?  Do we need to focus more on specific skills?  Are college graduates looking for all the right things in all the wrong places?  It seems to be an incredibly “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” oxymoron of a situation – but surely there is some way to better educate our graduates to meet the needs of business & industry.
